Tips to Help Ensure You're Completely In Love With Your Wedding Pics

A great photographer can be hard to find, but even when you find "the one", cultivating the bride/photographer relationship is essential! After all, unlike the work of your other vendors, you won’t be able to see, smell, touch or taste the final product until after your wedding. Here are a few tips to help ensure you're completely in love with your wedding pics!

Have a "Plan B"

Even in the early stages of planning, it’s important to keep in mind that you cannot control the weather. Once you decide what time of the day your wedding will be, make sure your photo timeline takes into consideration changes in weather (or even daylight savings time). If your getting married near a busy street, you may have to stop and wait for traffic to pass. Even if you think you’ve allotted enough time in your schedule, add another 15 minutes (as the rule of thumb)! With so many moving parts to a wedding, your timeline can start to get delayed quicker than you might think. If you dedicate an ample amount of time in your schedule solely to taking portraits, you’re guaranteed to avoid added stress.

Have Fun!

Sounds obvious, right? But, it’s easy to get carried away dancing with your little nephew or catching up with loved ones. Some of the best shots are the candid images of the happy couple simply sharing a laugh or whispering sweet words to each other. Make sure you and your spouse are not only enjoying your wedding guests (and cake!) but also each other.

There's No Such Thing As an Instagram Perfect Wedding

I repeat: There's No Such Thing As an Instagram Perfect Wedding!

For months you’ve been on a quest to save and pin the most beautiful Instagram and Pinterest pics on the Internet. (PLEASE!) keep in mind that those accounts and boards are often a collection of the best images from hundreds of different weddings. It's totally okay to share your Pinterest board with your photographer, or create a Google doc sharing some of your "must have poses". At the end of the day, it's all about communication, and trusting that your photographer will capture the most perfect representation of you, your fiancé and everything in between.

Instagrammable Moments

Sparklers, confetti, rice—whichever you choose.... do it for the ‘gram, but also make sure it aligns with your wedding personality (and venue rules/regulations). It’s easy to get lost in the idea of what you feel others think your wedding should look like. At the end of the day, the only IG like that matters is yours and your spouse’s.

Communicate with Your Photographer (before, and during the shoot)

On your wedding day, you’re going to bond more with photographer than your own maid of honor. If you’re self conscious about something, don’t hesitate to let your photographer know. Hate the way your arm looks from a certain angle? Let them know (prior) to your wedding so they’ll keep this in mind when shooting your portraits. If you get tired of taking group photos at your reception or there are tricky family dynamics, don’t be afraid to disclose these situations to your photographer ahead of time. Provide them pics of the family members that don't (or won't) be caught dead in a photo together. The more your photographer is in the know, the more they can help resolve issues. This will allow you to sit back and really be in the moment.
